8, 2014 Subject: Dance Grade: ALL Lesson Plan Title: How To: Do the First Five Positions of Ballet

Lesson Objectives: The students will be able to: - learn about and actually perform the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth positions of ballet by listening and imitating the teachers body (feet,legs,core,arms,head, etc.) Sequence of Planning Strategies Introduction, Set Induction or Anticipatory Set, Opener: Procedures, directions, notes, and questions. Examples, illustrations and resources.

Students will be asked to come to the front of the classroom to do simple stretches. -Stretch across right and left sides and down to legs on both sides. -Stretch arms on both sides

Lesson Procedures:

-I will use pictures to demonstrate what all of the positions look like and how the arms should be placed. I will also demonstrate to the class each position. -I will express that third position is only used for beginners and is not used when you grow older. -Then, I will go through each position individually. I will discuss how to exhibit the body and keep everything placed. On Power Point Show: -First position:

Smart board to project PowerPoint, ballet shoes.

-Second position: -Third position: -Fourth position: -Fifth position:

Closure: -The students will stand up in a large circle I will shout a position and they will have to get themselves into the position that I call out.

Assessment / Extension: Students will be assessed during the closure to see that they can perform the five different positions correctly. This can be extended by doing plies in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth positions.
