RAMS is a general term often used in the industry when it comes to quality in technical systems. It is an acronym for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety.[1] Reliability denotes a product or systems ability to perform a specific function and may be given as design reliability or operational reliability. Maintainability is determined by the ease at which the product or system can be repaired or maintained. Availability denotes the ability of a system to be kept in a functioning state. Safety denotes what risk it is for harming people, the environment, or any other assets during a system's life cycle.
