The special theme of the Istanbul Congress is “Imece” – the Turkish tradition of
collaborative solidarity. The 5th WYC will gather some of the world’s most brilliant
young leaders and activists to reflect on what are the most effective roles young
people can play in poverty reduction and development. They will engage with
experienced decision-makers and development professionals, in the spirit of “Imece”,
to discuss, plan and take action on global issues.
Like the previous congresses held in Hawai’I (1999), Morocco (2003), Scotland
(2005) and Canada (2008); the 5th WYC will offer delegates the opportunity to
contribute to plenary and regional meetings, skills workshops, cultural events,
exhibitions and of course, local action projects – which will take delegates to villages
and urban neighbourhoods across Turkiye to work together with local youth and
communities.
The congress is open to all young people – from whatever background, organisation,
or interest. This 5th World Youth Congress will host 1,000 young people aged 15-30.
Participants will have the opportunity to socialise, network, share their experiences
and cultures, and make life-long friends.
