Rationale: In things fall apart, Okonkwo had gone against what the clan elders said that is he committed

a crime, so he was forced to leave Umuoafia for seven years. When he was back he saw that the white men have changed Umuoafia and many kinsmen had joined them, all he expected Umuoafia to be turned out to be the opposite. Later Okonkwo kills the leader of the whites, but the other clansmen let the messengers escape. Okonkwo gets disappointed and hangs himself. I am changing the ending of the novel. I chose to do this because I thought the change in the ending would show a meaning to the world. It has become quite common for people to suicide, this is because they can't face the world or the world is not the way they want it to be. The ending will convey the message to the readers that "you are the change". Change happens from a single person, that one person can influence a thousand to follow them. There are so many countries in the world which are suffering from bad leaders, only if people act against them there can be a change. In my ending Okonkwo acts against the white men by leading his village to victory and bringing peace to Umuoafia again. Task: Chapter 24 There was a sudden break of silence from one of the guards who was trying to open the lock of the prison. It got Okonkwo and the others from what they were thinking. What is happening? Okonkwo asked the guard. The guard gave him a look but didn't answer. Soon the lock opened and they were given their bags and matches back. As the clan elders were ready to go back to the village, a guard came running to stop them, he said the District Commissioner as asked them to see him. At the court house the District Commissioner spoke to them again about the great queen, and about peace and good government. But the men did not listen,

they were in their own world. Okonkwo had anger in his face. As the men were on their way to the village they met their women and kids who were scared to talk to them looking at the mens faces. The other men in the village joined the six as they came to the village. The village was astir in a silent way. Few other men joined them as the walked to the market place. Okonkwo asked the crier to call everyone in the town who hasnt joined the christians to the market place immediately, but Obierika stopped Okonkwo and said If the crier announces the message everyone hear it and the commissioner or his men might come. So just ask him to go tell everyone personally and ask them to tell the others. Okonkwo was impressed and asked the crier to do the same. The crier went on telling everyone and then within a few a few minutes everyone was in the market place. Surprisingly there was silence, no one spoke a word. Okonkwo stood up and started Things are not going the way its supposed to be. Umuoafia was never a town which has taken wrong decisions. We have already taken many wrong decisions. First mistake, we let the Messengers come to our town. Second mistake, we let them talk against our gods and convert our people. Third mistake, we let them establish a government and rule us. We kept letting them do things, which was never supposed to happen. We made so many mistakes that our gods will be ashamed of us. Now! We have a chance. To rectify our mistakes. Okonkwo paused there and glanced through the crowed. They were astonished by Okonkwos speech. Everyone was involved. Okonkwo continued, I want all the men who are willing to go with the town and our gods to stay back. All the women, children and other men please go back. Now the crowd started to speak to themselves. They were all curious, all of them wanted to know what was going to happen, but not every man stayed because everyone knew when Okonkwo is making a plan it is fatal. Only the warriors stayed back. Since it was a smaller group all of them made a circle and Okonkwo stood in the middle taking the lead again. Okonkwo said We are not going to be cowards now. We are going to fight the white, finish them and get Umuoafia back. Even before he could finish it the leader come running and screaming Are you saying youll finish us? Okonkwo takes his matche and stabs the leader twice. The leader dies and the others kill his men, but one man manages to escape.

All of them get worried that the district commissioner will come and arrest them, but Okonkwo wisely comes up with a plan. He tells the men of the village to just follow it. Chapter 25 The man who escaped ran to the district commissioner. He took a deep breath said, Okonkwo just killed the leader and the other men. The commissioner was shocked, yet he reacted fast. The commissioner ordered his men to get weapons and follow him to Okonkwos house. Okonkwos place looked deserted. As they came closer they wondered if he was in. They didnt want to take a chance so they went in. Warriors of Umuoafia ran out of the huts, obi and the other places they were hiding. They attacked the Commissioner and his men. They were dead within a few minutes and there were celebrations. All the leaders of Umuoafia announced a feast the next day to acknowledge Okonkwo. The next day the Christians as well as the converts were brought to the feast and before the celebrations began the leaders had to decided what to do to these people. After a few discussions they said that all of them must leave the town right now and the church will be demolished, where as the courthouse and the prison will be used by the clan leaders. After all of them left, Okonkwo was appreciated and Okonkwo thanked all of them and said it was a teamwork. Okonkwo had changed since he came back from the prison. There was a sign of improvement in his character. Okonkwo gained back all his respect he had lost before.
