As of mid-May 2014, I will have earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign. Having already passed my history content and assessment of professional teaching exams, I am eligible for the Illinois Professional Education License (IPEL) Social Science grades (6-8) and Social Science: History grades (9-12). I am applying to this school district because I am confident that my academic background and instructional skills would be successfully utilized within this district. While attending the University of Illinois I have had the opportunity to create meaningful relationships within the local school districts through my three semesters of practicum placements. I have maintained Deans List status with my cumulative GPA of 3.7/4.0 and am a member of several collegiate and education based honors societies. Currently I am completing my 14-week student teaching experience at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL. I am responsible for three separate classes: US Government, American Studies, and American Society. I have developed and initiated an 8-week full curriculum takeover for these classes. My classes have allowed me to create unique lessons designed for 21st century learners and has given me the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary setting with the English department to facilitate American Society Block. During my time at Neuqua Valley I have taken the effort to immerse myself in the school culture by assisting with the girls soccer program after school and by helping with several clubs such as Student Council and Model UN.
