Someone must have leaked insider information about Dirk Manns nancial troubles, he thought he had kept a tight lid on his dealings with the bank but, one afternoon, he lost his hotel. We should sell, said Paul Sands, his business partner, during the storms wake a few weeks back, your pride is going to be the death of Mann Co. It isnt worthwhile to keep carrying Sackson just to own the oldest hotel in the city. Its a sellers market, and well get a fortune for it. We really should sell. Those words haunted Dirk when Lisa Scarpelli, his main rival, purchased her majority share of Sackson

Hotel in a hostile bid to rip the citys oldest jewel away from him. She knew nothing of the hotels history-she was new to the city-but Dirk believed that one couldnt look at that pile of steel and glass without feeling the weight of its legacy on their shoulders. During escrow, he could sense the fond and lovely memories owing away, like its long blue hallways, into a fogged mist. After losing the Sackson, his remaining fortunes were sunk in the Imperial Hotel, the crown jewel of his once mighty otilla in the city. The day he turned over Sacksons keys to Lisa, he greeted the doorman with a familiar nod. He sauntered into the Victorian-style lobby with a check-in desk that was

guarded by lamps that sat like proud gureheads. Youre late Mr. Mann. His back shivered at the frost of her breath. Lisa led him to his old o!ce on the second oor, I have good news and bad news, she watched Dirks reaction. Which do you want rst? You can skip onto the good news.
