MURDER
‘An autopsy was performed on Harvey J. Smith late this afternoon. The Elkhart County Coroner,
Jeanette Albert, has ruled the cause of death as stab wound to neck and chest with bilateral
hemothorax and exsanguination.
Detectives of the Indiana State Police and Elkhart County Sheriff's Department are continuing
their investigation,

NEWS RELEASE
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, The Indiana State Police, and the Elkhart County
Coroner’s Office are investigating a murder which apparently occurred sometime yesterday
G-16-98) evening.
‘At approximately 10:40 P.M. Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to 56200 Riverdale Drive
Elkhart in response to the finding of a body at that residence. When Officers arrived, they found
the victim on the floor of the residence. It was apparent from the condition of the victim that the
death was not from natural causes.
A friend had gone to the residence and found the victim.
The Elkhart County Coroner, Jeanette Albert, will be scheduling an autopsy for later today to
determine a cause of death, She will release the result at that time.
