Systematic Theology 3 Syllabus Introduction There are certain things that are critical for a pastor.

They need to know the Bible, they need to live a life that is above reproach, they need to have compassion, and they need to be able to lead and feed their congregation. But there is an unstated core need that people have for their pastor; they need their pastors to know God. Knowing God comes from experience, obedience, and a theology that is well grounded in the scriptures. ny knowledge that does not come out of these areas is suspect and unlikely to bear real fruit in a person!s life. The more you know God the more likely your life yields the fruit of holiness. "hen # state that this is the core of your studies # mean that all you have studied till now has e$uipped you to understand and agree or disagree with what you will study in theology. Theology is primary rooted in good hermeneutics of the scripture. But you need to know enough of the scripture to do hermeneutics effectively. %hurch history shows how important both theology and its application are. "e stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us. &ow is theology important' (aul said this to Timothy) As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, (4) nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith (!) "he aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (#) $ertain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, (%) desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they ma&e confident assertions. *+Ti +),-. /012 (aul is saying that sincerity and elo$uence mean little without truth; what is important is doctrinal truth that results in love and a true faith. This is sound doctrine, or as we say, biblically grounded theology. Knowing God in truth will help you lead and feed God!s people. #n fact the more you know God, the easier it is to minister. 3ou give out of your overflow, and a deep, full knowledge of the one you represent. 0econdarily this reduces burnout, and brings greater 4oy to ministry. 5ut of a rich treasury are available many more gifts.
