Meaning of standardized coefficients 'Beta' in SPSS output

1 message Ravindra S. Gokhale <ravindra@iimidr.ac.in> To: PGP 2013-15 Section C <pgp2013c@iimidr.ac.in> Dear Participants, The 'standardized coefficients (Beta)' in SPSS Output refer to the coefficients obtained by running the regression model on 'standardized' values (for the independent as well as dependent variables) rather than the original value. For each data point (Xiv) of a variable v, the standardized value can be obtained by: (Xiv - mean of data for variable v) / (standard deviation of data for variable v). Thus instead of original values, the input to the regression will be the standardized values. The standardized coefficients will help to provide a guideline to which variable is more important in explanation. Thanks and Regards, Ravindra Wed, Sep 4, 2013 at 12:00 PM
