PROJECT PROPOSAL

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The proposal seeks funding for the establishment of a childrens home in Limuru /Nairobi. The proposal is for an initial phase of 2 years. Construction of the home, a church, computer laboratory/library, purchase of vehicles and supplies plus outreach programs in the community within the environs of the home.

Whereas the project is putting up a home of the orphaned, neglected or abandoned children We work to: Provide quality nutrition, clean places to live, and adequate medical care for orphans. Equip orphans with a Christian education and life skills, give them hope and a future. Establishing and maintaining systems that ensure orphans will receive the best possible care and donors will feel confident about the use of their gifts. To raise the awareness of the world-wide orphan crisis. The number of orphaned children in the world has swelled to more than 143 million (more than the populations of Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia combined). AIDS, civil war, and corrupt governments have dealt crushing blows to children around the globe. Calling people to action in order to raise the standard of care for orphans; mobilizing a broad network of individuals, churches and businesses to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of orphans.

A healing mission will be embarked on where men and women are empowered through spiritual and health guidance. To those whose homes or hearts are broken or almost. Counsel, educate and enlighten them on the dangers they face during certain transition periods.

Try to redeem communities from life threatening calamities and reverse them back to their self and mental well-being, make them self-esteemed, non- violent couples that reduce family separation and divorces for a better, happy stress free life and loves. It is anticipated that the success of the 2 years project will lead to an expanded program in the following 3 years. Whereas children in the home will be given formal education, life skills training will be a dominant feature.

1. INTRODUCTION
The idea of establishing a home for abandoned and disadvantaged children was mooted in 2001. This was as a result of identifying a multitude of problems experienced by children in Kenya communities. The initiator of the idea had a church in Kenya and this is where most problems were identified. As such, the home shall be managed and administered by a management committee of Christian background and who have at one time been associated with the pastor who originally conceived the idea. Presently the proposed project has not received any funding from any quarter.

2. PROBLEM STATEMENT
The economic decline over the years has made the parents frustrated and unable to care for their children. Alcoholism, prostitution and the general decline of the moral values has led to children running away from home due to insecurity or a life that has no quality. Children either do not go to school or fall out in the way due to lack of school fees. The spiritual base that would support proper marriages and appropriate morals is not strong is the country although 80% of the population claims to be Christian. This lack of a strong spiritual base leads to a loss moral fiber that results in pathetic situations for children. Due to high illiteracy and semi-illiteracy rates, proper family values, proper rearing virtues and dignity among families is lacking. The situation has further been compounded by poverty and unemployment, the HIV/AID scourge which has left many children as orphans.

3. SITUATION ANALYSIS

Public health education programs in Kenya have raised the awareness to Kenyans about the nature and transmission modes of HIV/AIDS epidemic to over 90%. However, this high awareness level has been successfully in bringing about behavior change. The rapid spread of HIV and the incidence of sexual transmitted diseases pose a daunting challenge to behavior change promotion and advocacy. The core of the problem is the sexual behavior change that would lead to transformed lives which Christians are called to live to be transformed by the renewing of their mind.

4. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The overall objectives of the project shall include: To reduce the zero-prevalence of HIV/AIDS by the project period To increase the level of care and support activities for the infected and affected specifically, the project would aim at reducing the above through: Promoting safer sexual behavior Promoting safer non-sexual behavior Provide support to those infected and affected by AIDS through interpersonal and group therapy Support to the sick, widow/widower and orphans by setting up a children home and a revolving fund for their parents/ guardian. 5. THE PROJECT (ACTIVITIES)

Whereas the main core would be to establish a children home with a capacity of orphaned or neglected children, the over arching goal is to build a social work organization reaching out to the socially, educationally and economically backward sections of society irrespective of tribe, religion or creed.

The primary focus will be to provide general care and education for the under privileged children in the society. We would like to work on a community based method where parents/ guardians and children are involved. The proposed Limuru / Nairobi home will provide a secure home, care and education to abandoned, neglected and children from broken families or those abused. This will enable them to develop into productive members of society.
