Music Movement Lesson Plan Title: Copperhead Road by Steve Earle Origin: written by Steve Earle about Tennessee, particularly the infamous Copperhead road Resource: iTunes Introduction: 20 second introduction with bagpipes Formation: Students will create a box or a rectangle if a box isnt possible Alternate Formation: 2 lines
Procedure: 1. Right heel , left, right heel, left a. Feet: heel R, heel L, heel R, heel L b. Count: 1, 2, 3, 4 2. Right cross, 3, 4, left cross, 3, 4 a. Feet: Right foot kick across left leg, left foot kick across right leg b. Count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 3. Right heel , left, right heel, left a. Feet: heel R, heel L, heel R, heel L b. Count: 1, 2, 3, 4 4. Stomp, 2, 3, 4, Turn 2, 3, 4 a. Feet: Right stomp, left step, feet together, turn 90 degrees to the left as you stomp your right foot, left step, feet together b. Count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 5. Repeat all four steps until song is over
Lead Up Activities: Discuss the history of Copperhead Road, Tennessee. Practice step 1 then add step 2 and practice both. Practice step 3 and then step 1, 2 and 3. Practice step 4 and then step 1, 2, 3 and 4. Do the dance with music. Teaching Tip: Check for comprehension at each step. Re-explain steps when necessary.
