Independent Technology Project Plan


1 PLANNING SHEET
Description of project - I feel that cyber bullying is a very prevalent issue. We as teachers, have to be aware of when students are using technology in the classroom or at home. Teaching internet safety is a must in a technology inclined lesson. Since teachers are mainly the ones who introduce technology to elementary and middle school children, cyber bullying and internet safety can become a big issue without being properly addressed. Thus, this project will entail the details as to why we should educate our students about internet safety so that using the internet will be a safe and fun experience for them. Wh!t is the p"rpose of the en# pro#"ct yo" $ill cre!te% - The purpose of this whole presentation is to enlighten and inform my fellow classmates about how hidden cyber bullying can be and how important it is to educate internet safety. The purpose of the end product is to empower my peers to use this presentation as a guide for when they teach technology in their future classrooms. Wh!t technology $ill yo" "se% - I will be using a ower oint presentation to exhibit my information to my peers !future teachers". I will also use a computer, or even an i ad to show my class this information and for them to demonstrate internet safety. I would use #idspiration and $icrosoft %ffice templates to show my presentation in an easier way. Second, internet safety is the (nowledge of maximi+ing the user,s personal safety and security ris(s on private information and property associated with using the internet, and the self-protection from computer crime in general. Without the proper definitions it is hard to even begin to tal( about these prevalent issues regarding technology and students. - )or the materials I would only need a computer and a ower oint presentation to demonstrate this material. )or my peers I would li(e it if they could (eep notes on this presentation so that they can fully understand this material. When I present this as a lesson, I would probably use a #W- chart on it so that the students can tell me what they already (now about cyber bullying and internet safety, what they want to (now more about, and what they learned. I also found this chec(list for implementing safety rules and software tools to ensure the best environment for children. They also need to model this digital age wor( by using ower oint, a computer and i ad. .lso the teachers need to especially promote internet safety or digital citi+enship and responsibility and final they need to engage in their students growth on the issue at hand. 2roject timeline !n# le!rning se'"ence - I would say that presenting this to my peers will only ta(e about 0=-07 minutes depending on the time restraints and if there are any >uestions. ?owever when I am presenting this material to my future students this will all be different. 1ecause I thin( that it will ta(e one class period to get through every element of the project. It will ta(e one for the presentation itself, another one for them to fill out their #W- chart, another class period for me to assess their learning and to go over the rules, and finally the last two class periods would be to implement these techni>ues learned on computers or i ads. %verall it would ta(e a wee(, five days, to complete this project. - The learning se>uence will depend on the grade level and the level of cognition.

2 EVALUATION AND E TENSION


Wh!t h!3e yo" le!rne# from this project% - I learned so much from this project. )irst off I learned how very important and crucial it is to educate peers and future students about cyber bullying and internet safety. Since children can sometimes be careless on the internet or social media networ(s, they have to (now what is o(ay to do and what is not o(ay to do. 1ecause if

a student is not safe on the internet it puts them at a potential ris( to get cyber bullied and that can lead to very traumatic effects on the child. Some effects are depression, anxiety, lac( of motivation in school, and suicidal thoughts. I learned that in order to have internet safety one needs to loo( at the legal, ethical, and social issues involved in classroom learning. Wh!t $ere yo"r most "sef"l reso"rces in completing the project% - I feel li(e my most useful resources are the websites for both cyber bullying and internet safety. )or my W&33 class, currently, we have to choose a semester long research topic and I chose cyber bullying that is how I (now my resources are scholarly, academic, and trustworthy. 4o$ $ill.co"l# yo" sh!re or "se this project% - I would share this project with my classmates as I am doing in class to them, by demonstrating it on ower oint and have them ta(e some brief notes. I can also use this project for my classroom to teach my future students about cyber bullying and internet safety. Wh!t !re some other possible !pplic!tions of the technology yo" h!3e le!rne# !n# "se# to complete this project% - Some other possible applications of technology could be different ways to present the information or even create a $icrosoft %ffice template on my topics. Some other ways to present the information could be through a re+i, a video, anything that shows information. I could also create a template for my peers and students to brea( down important concepts for them to ma(e it easier to understand and grasp. 4o$ co"l# this project be f"rther impro3e#% - To me, this project could be further improved by me finding more application wor(sheets and assessments for my classroom to use in order to fully ensure they grasped this very important issue. I would also li(e a different template for my lesson planning sheet, because this one got too confusing and I would li(e to see a sample one to better aid my understanding so that I can produce the best presentation for my peers and future studentsE &f this is ! st"#ent project, ho$ $ill it be e3!l"!te#% - To be honest I never thought of it this wayE I thin( this is a really great idea and I would maybe implement this idea if I was teacher a higher level of education. 1ecause I would as( my students to now ma(e their own sort of presentation over cyber bullying and internet safety to show to their classmates. The students can use

technology or even a poster if they want. I would evaluate them on their content and how well they comprehended this wee( long lesson on it. I would also grade on the presentation format and to see if they can get their ideas across well and can prove to me that they fully (now and understand internet safety to prevent cyber bullying. 4!s this project le# yo" to thin( !bo"t other technologies yo" $o"l# li(e to e5plore !n# m!ster% &f so, $h!t !re they% - Fes, I want to explore software tools on a computer and (now how to bloc( certain websites for the students and to create loc(s and passcodes on other items on a computer. I thin( this will be great to (now so I can easily monitor what they are doing.
