1. (a) Explain the following with an example: System, Entity, Attribute, Activity,
State of the system.
(b) Differentiate between stochastic and deterministic system activities with ex-
amples [10+6]

2. (a) Discuss with an example how simulation is done for a continuous model.
(b) Discuss with an example how simulation is done for a discrete model. [8+8]

3. (a) Explain about analog computers and analog methods used in simulation.
(b) Discuss about hybrid computers and digital-analog simulators. [8+8]

4. (a) Explain the Monte-Carlo method.

(b) Discuss some of the applications of Monte-Carlo method.
(c) Is Monte-Carlo method a simulation technique ? Justify your answer [8+4+4]

5. There are 2 workers that are responsible for 10 milling machines. The machines
run on the average for 20 minutes, then require an average 5 minutes service period
and both the times are exponentially distributed. Determine the various measures
of performance, by assuming 0.692 as the probability that an arrival has to wait
for service and 0.854 as the efficiency factor. [16]

6. (a) List the commonly needed statistics while simulation.

(b) Describe counters and summary statistics used in simulation studies. [6+10]

7. Draw GPSS block diagrams and write programs for the following problem.. Cus-
tomers arrive at a single server counter with an average inter-arrival time of 20 ±
10 seconds. They purchase from 1 to 4 items with the following probabilities:

1 0.5
2 0.2
3 0.2
4 0.1

It takes 5 seconds to purchase each item. Tabulate the distribution of time for
serving the first 100 customers. [16]
