Cruz 1 Erwin Cruz English 113A Professor Ditch 5/10/13 Reflection Essay Upon entering this class, I realized

that we were going to be mainly focusing on areas that would make us become stronger writers. I always comprehended that writing was one of the biggest disadvantages that I attained. That is why I was delighted to take this class to really understand the teachings that would really help me be successful in my writing. Before I began this class I was nervous and I didnt know what to expect from it. I was attentive that I wasnt the only one feeling nervous, however after time I started to feel more comfortable. I originally thought the course was going to be difficult but it actually turned out to be fairly easy. Many of the material that professor Ditch went over was very comprehendible and useful. Towards the end of this first semester I started feel more confident about my writing. All the doubts that I had in the past have been refined. However, I feel like there is always room for improvement in my writing. Besides the fact that writing is not my greatest strength, I still enjoy it. I really appreciate writing bibliographies and I also enjoy writing arguments when Im trying to prove a point in an essay. As in matter of fact I really take pleasure in expressing my self through writing more than through mouth to mouth. It just allows a message to be communicated more profoundly. However I dislike having to include transitions and making my essay cohesive in order to have that natural flow when reading my paper. I have realized that I really struggle to start off my essays and lack that confidence when Im

Cruz 2 trying to get a message across. I know that I still need improvement in my writing, but I am just glad to have improved after taking this course. This course has primarily allowed me to excel in writing arguments. At first when I wrote thesis for my essays I really didnt have a strong conveying argument where I was able to express exactly what I was trying to argue, but after I took this course, I learned to focus more on making my argument coherent and suitable for my audience. My thesis is now starting to look sharper and more impactful. Learning about pathos, ethos, and logos in class was very inspirational. I learn the significance behind these words and the impact it could have an essay when trying to explain something. We usually use these when we are writing a persuasive essay. It allows us to connect with our audience. Overall I believe Ms. Ditch did a great job making her students feel comfortable in class. She provided us with an environment that allowed everyone to participate when needed. I would suggest students who take this course next year to enjoy every moment of this class because this class could not only be fun, but could also help you explore new ways of writing. I would also recommend incoming students to take advantage of the Learning recreation center. It will just help you get a better understanding of what to consider and what to apply when writing your essays. When it comes to class discussions I would recommend student to participate and really get involve, this will just make you a stronger thinker and could potentially help students when it comes to writing. I in the other would continue to use all of the things that I learned this semester and apply it to my future classes.
