It states that compare with other years its not as bad but it is still the seven consecutive year organization has lost revenue. The US postal service has seek the help of legislation to relieve some of the payments the firm is obligated to make. The US postal services is having a hard time making payment of the retiree and is hoping to switch to a five- day mailing service. In the mist of all of this the US Postal service is looking into merging or making business agreement with other major firms. Amazon being one of the, the US Postal service is looking into delivering Amazon purchases on Sunday to both maintain online customers happy and boost revenue for the US Postal service.

The article U.S. Postal Service narrows loss in latest fiscal year talks about the strugglers of the US Postal service. The USPS is a monopoly (the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade) being one of the only and biggest mail carrying firms (any organization of individual that purchase). This a good example of Microeconomics (the study of the individual parts of the economy )and macroeconomics (the study of the economy as a whole )if the USPS was to shut down or slow down I would affect both small towns and the nation as a whole for the very reason it is the major mail carrying agency. If USPS was to join with or agree to do business with Amazon in a way it would create a Cartel (group together to eliminate a competition) this would create more Total Revenue (the total amount paid to producers for a good or service) but it will make it so its workers have any time off and this is something monopolies are known for. Monopoly is also know to be Price setters (set the price of the good in a market/control prices). With how much people are relying on mail lately because a lot of goods are bough online the USPS has to maintain in service. They have to think of their explicit costs (the monetary payment a firm must make to and outsiders to obtain a resource) and Implicit Cost (the monetary income a firm sacrifices when it uses a resource it own rather that supply the resources in the market) maybe it they can cut one of their cost they are able to maintain open and in service. This also works as a reminder that we all rely on technology (e application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes) to function in business and as a nation.
The U.S. Postal Service has also entered an arrangement to sell its services out of Staples Inc office supplies retail stores. The agency's operating revenues rose to $66 billion from $65.2 billion last year, the first growth in revenue since 2008. To cut costs, the agency reduced work hours by 12 million and consolidated mail processing centers this year. A plan to cut Saturday delivery of first-class mail was defeated by Congress earlier this year. Fredric Rolando, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, said he was encouraged by the improvement in the U.S. Postal Service's finances. "With the economy gradually recovering from the recession, the Postal Service has returned to operational profitability - with an operating profit of $600 million delivering the mail this fiscal year," he said. Still, this was the USPS's seventh consecutive year of losses as first-class mail volumes continued to tumble, with more Americans communicating and paying bills electronically.
