relays for system transformer connecting two networks (or) in network with a large difference between maximum and minimum short circuit fault MVA. Back-up protection must be able to see a fault at any one of the voltage system and it must also be able to operate for minimum short circuit MVA. In such a case we use under impedance relay as back up. Reach is independent of the magnitude of short circuit current.
