Metropolitan Model United Nations Conference XLII

United Nations Human Rights Committee

Dear Delegates, Welcome to the 42nd annual Metropolitan Model United Nations Conference at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School! As your chairs, we are looking forward to guiding you as you debate pressing issues of international scope. The United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) was established in 1946 as the principal policy-making body for human rights in the UN system. The Charter of the United Nations, which was signed in 1945 after World War II, states that one of the aims of the United Nations is to achieve international cooperation in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for the fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion. The three topics for debate in this years committee are as follows: The Rights of Disabled People, Human Rights During Armed Conflict, and Rights of Nonviolent Protestors. We expect that you will all work cooperatively to further the efforts to protect the human rights of all global citizens. We are excited to hear you debate and discuss your views on the three topics. We both are looking forward to an exciting and engaging committee and are thrilled to meet you. Thank you for attending MetMUNC XLII we hope that debate will be enriching for all! Best regards, Shakeel Faizy Dara Gleeson
