Essential Question What information do pictures and words give?

Formative Assessment This assessment lets me know if the students understand the topic and if they do not, then we can spend extra time on it.

Accommodations: Any early finishers will be able to work on other work that needs to be finished. If a child needs extra time, he/she will finish during related arts or recess. Materials: Journeys Book (Teacher Edition) Decoding Sheet RWC 58 Student Reading Book Pencil Procedures: 1. As a class, we will review what sound the short e makes. 2. We will read the story "My Pets" out of Journeys as a whole class. 3. I will then call on each child or groups of children to read different sentences. 4. We will then talk about the book and what kind of information they got from the book. 5. After doing this, we will move on to "Reader's Theatre" in the Journeys book.

6. After this I will give instructions on what is to be done on the Decoding Sheet RWC 58. 7. The students will then complete this sheet and when they are done, will hand it in to me so I can check it. 8. When the students have turned in their work, we will begin working on our paragraph for the 4-square that we completed yesterday in class. References: Lynn Patterson SC Journeys- Houghton Mifflin Harcourt-Unit 1 Lesson 4 Activity Analysis: Read "My Pets" and "City Mouse, Country Mouse". o -The students need to be able to read fluently and these stories give them a chance to read the one-syllable words. Decoding Sheet RWC 58 o -This aligns with the standards because it gives the students the opportunity to read one-syllable words and find where they fit. o -The sheet helps with the reading ability of the students. Technology: -Technology will not be used in this lesson because all materials that we need are in the classroom already. Instructional Strategy Analysis: Model with direct instruction o This instructional strategy supports my objective because the students need to read fluently and the books are on grade level. o This stems from student needs because the students would have had difficulty with some words so I need to read it to them before they read it. o The students and I would have needed a Journeys book to read from. Independent work o This instructional strategy supports my objective because it gives the students a chance to read the words by themselves so I can see that they can figure things out. o This stems from student needs because I need to know what students can read the words and sentences and what students cannot. o The students would need a pencil and the decoding sheet RWC (readingwriting connection) 58.
