Devised Performance Night 2013 Act 1

Welcome!
Thank you for joining us tonight for the Devised Performance Night. Tonight our GCSE & A-level students will present their coursework performances which make up a considerable percentage of their qualification mark. As in previous years we have a range of performance for you to enjoy this evening. The Year 11 GCSE class have created two plays this year based on the famous song Handbags & Gladrags. Both groups have taken the inspiration for their plot from the lyrics of the song so please see if you can spot the references! We also have our Year 13 A-Level students presenting their play What You Will which is a modern adaptation of Shakespeares comedy, Twelfth Night. The theatre style the students have chosen to work with is that of Brechts Epic Theatre so be prepared for some breaking of the fourth wall! Tonight will be broken into 2 Acts, with a short comfort break between them to allow for set changes. This year all of the groups have staged their plays for a Traverse stage. This has been an unusual experiment for them as the Traverse requires the playing to the audience on 2 sides much like a catwalk. As it is an assessed performance may I ask that you, the audience, to enter into the spirit of the event and ensure that all mobile phones are switched off and no photographs are taken during the performance. Many thanks and I hope you will enjoy!
