Can You Find The Match? ABC Center I. SECTION ONE A.

PA Academic Standards for English Language Arts CC.1.1.K.C: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes) CC.1.1.K.D: Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words B. Enduring Understandings Students will understand that every capital letter has a matching lowercase letter C. Essential Questions What do capital and lowercase letters look like? D. Performance Standards Students will know That for each capital letter there is a matching lowercase letter That capital and lowercase letters make the same sound, but can look different That capital and lowercase letters are different sizes Students will be able to Match the appropriate capital letter with the corresponding lowercase letter

II. SECTION TWO A. Formative/Summative Observe students ability to make pairs of capital and lowercase letters B. Adaptations For lower level group, ESL kids, have them only work on letters A-F

III. SECTION THREE A. Materials Owl capital and lowercase matching cards B. Procedures Have students sit at the ABC center Each student will take a capital letter board In the middle of the table they will lay out all of the lowercase letters Students will have to find the lowercase letters that match the capital letters on their board When they are done with their board, switch with someone at their table

Can You Write Around The Room? Writing Center IV. SECTION ONE A. PA Academic Standards for English Language Arts CC.1.1.K.B: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print CC.1.1.K.C: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes) CC.1.1.K.D: Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words CC.1.4.K.B: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to focus on one specific topic CC.1.4.K.D: Make logical connections between drawing and dictation/writing B. Enduring Understandings Students will understand that you write from left to right Students will understand that pictures help figure out what word to use C. Essential Questions Where do you start when you write? How do pictures help us? D. Performance Standards Students will know How to follow instructions That you start words at the left How to write their letters correctly Students will be able to Follow instructions Write words from pictures Start their letters in the right place

V. SECTION TWO A. Formative/Summative Observing students walking around the room and writing the appropriate words B. Adaptations For lower level group, ESL kids, have them do a different activity Fill in the missing letter (capital and lowercase) A-F VI. SECTION THREE A. Materials Pencil Clipboard

Write around the room paper Owl cards hung up around the room

Procedures Have students get a clipboard and a write around the room paper Explain to them that hung up around the room are cards with owls on them Each card has a picture and a word The picture is on their paper They have to go around the room and write the correct word next to the right picture

Enduring Understandings Students will understand that patterns must repeat over and over again C. Essential Questions What is a pattern? D. Performance Standards Students will know What a pattern is How to complete a pattern Students will be able to Distinguish between patterns and non-patterns Finish a pattern

VIII. SECTION TWO A. Formative Students ability to decide whether or not there is a pattern Deciding which owl comes next in the pattern B. Summative Looking at the pattern worksheet when they are done IX. SECTION THREE A. Materials Scissors Glue Pattern worksheet B. Procedures Have students take a pattern worksheet Have them decide if the row they are looking at is a pattern If so, what comes next? Cut the picture out and glue it in the correct box
