Goal(s)

13.6.1. Learners should be able to demonstrate stress management strategies for family, work, and community settings (NASAFACS).

Prior Knowledge In a group discussion, ask the learners how they define stress Ask what are the signs and symptoms associated with stress. 3. Learner Outcomes: 4. Assessment of Learner Learners will: Outcomes: After the lesson, learners will be able to identify and verbally explain what stress is and the signs and symptoms experienced in stressful times or events (Cognitive). After the lesson, learners will be able to identify the five leading causes of stress in their personal lives and prioritize them from least to greatest (Cognitive). After identifying five reasons for stress, learners will be able to list five ways to cope with those stressors (Cognitive). After the lesson, learners will be able to verbally discuss a form of stress in their life (Level V, Synthesis). Learners will be able to list five stressors in their life and organize them from most stressful to least stressful (Level III, application) In a group activity, learners will formulate and write down on the white board one area of stress that they would like to improve upon (Level V, synthesis).

5. Procedures: Activity 1: Breathing exercise. Have the learners close their eyes and take five deep breaths. While they are doing this, tell them to clear their mind and relax. (Body, kinesthetic) Group discussion and presentation on what stress is and identifying sources of stress in the individuals lives. (Interpersonal, intrapersonal) Explain the signs and symptoms of stress and what the physical and mental effects of stress may cause. Discuss the physical and mental ways that stress can be managed (Intrapersonal) Activity 2: Hand out and complete the Are you stressed out? handout. (Intrapersonal) Activity 3: In a group setting, on giant sticky notes, individuals/groups will write

6. Questions: How would you summarize stress? What approach would you like to use to overcome stress? What do you think about stress? What do you think about stress management? Can you formulate an action/reaction for the next time you feel stressed? Can you assess the value of stress management? How would you select to manage your stress?
