reading. She took great pleasure in her written work and participated to the best of her abilities.

Reading When interpreting Marys test results, her reading comprehension skills appear to be low, yet she has a high pseudo word decoding score (standard score: 117; 87%). Her high decoding score shows that she has the skills required to decode words yet she is still working on processing word meanings and also needs to improve her working memory of common words that deal with comprehension. I think Mary would benefit from increased retrieval activities to assist her comprehension. Her listening comprehension standard score was 99, which falls in the 47th percentile, which is very low compared to her peers. It would be helpful to continuously work on comprehension skills in guided reading with this student as well as improve her ability to differentiate real words from pseudo words to help her further process meanings and commit them to memory. There is a possibility that she flourished more with pseudo words than real words, as she knew that there wasnt necessarily a correct answer. She has a level of understanding of vocabulary, yet still struggles with the overall comprehension issues.

Math Mary enjoyed the math activities that asked her to identify numbers, follow patterns, count items, or identify shapes. She accurately was able to add two number math problems that were presented in a linear fashion (right to left) however struggled with problems presented from top to bottom or those with more than two digits being added together. Subtraction was a troubling concept for her, primarily as it is a new concept she is starting to cover in first grade. When confronted with subtraction problems, Mary simply tried to complete the math equation as if it was an addition problem. Marys math problem solving standard score was 103, which equates to a percentile rank of 58% which compared to her grade level peers is a low score. Her numerical operation standard score was 112, which is in the 79th percentile, which is one of her highest percentile ranks across the assessment. Interestingly enough placing in the 79th percentile is still below average compared to her grade equivalent peers. She would benefit from more pointed and directed mathematical instruction based on her needs as well as continued work with mathematical operations.

Writing Mary has beautiful penmanship and takes great pride in her letter formation. She utilized what she liked to call fancy letters. Her penmanship and writing ability are easily one of her strengths. She is a steadfast worker and tries her hardest to make well-formed accurate letters. When writing through the alphabet, she was able to adequate form and sizes all letters with the exception of creating an uppercase Q as well as reversing the letter Z. In 30 seconds, she was able to form the letters through J (standard score: 105; 63%). Additionally, her writing samples demonstrate her ability to sound spell. She is still working on differentiating between the use of uppercase and lowercase letters in her sentence work. Throughout the progression of the year she will continue to work on upper and lowercase letters as well as proper punctuation use.
