Richard Fitzgibbons Baptist Church Dear Richard Fitzgibbons, A growing problem encountered in current day, is the inequality faced by many. A person may be judged for their gender, the way they dress, or their sexual orientation. The church is a major advocate in informing the people that is unjust to discriminate people because, as the Church says, God loves everyone. As a priest, you may believe in that morality. You do an adequate job in telling church goers that one should not discriminate others. When reading your journal, its evident that you believe that it is wrong to discriminate people, yet you seem to being doing the opposite when discussing the topic of same sex marriage adoption. In your writing, its highlighted that you believe same sex couples provide an unstable environment for their adopted children. You seem to show a biased attitude towards this specific group of people. You state that when a child is raised with same sex parents, they tend to not provide a model environment in which to raise children. Your ideology is that same sex couples tend to be promiscuous, (i.e. numerous sexual relationships), the union of the couple tend to be very fragile (i.e. the tendency to break up more easily), and the couple may not be necessarily healthy (i.e. more same sex couples tend to have HIV infections). Therefore, its shown that you have a biased attitude when it comes to talking about same sex parents, because in your writing, it shows that you believe that they provide a child with a bad environment in which to live in. Its a harsh judgment to state that all same sex couples provide an unstable environment because youre stereotyping all same sex couples as unfit parents, which is not the case.

Research has shown that the children of same-sex couples, both adopted and biological children, are no different than the kids of straight couples on mental health, social functioning, school performance and a variety of other life-success measures. This displays that same sex couples are able to provide a stable environment for their children, because its shown that these children do not turn out any different than children raised with heterosexual couples. There may be some instances in which certain same sex couples do not provide stable environments for the children, but the same can be said about heterosexual couples. Hopefully with reading this, you will be able to change your opinion on same sex couples. Its important to show equality towards all people and to not categorize same sex couples as all being unfit parents. Hopefully you will take my opinion into consideration. Sincerely,

Angelica Jarquin
