Dye Elementary School

Student enrollment: 477 Pupil teacher ratio: 20.21 (That is 20.21 pupils per 1 Teacher) Since flint is a socio economic disadvantaged community Dye Elementary finds it not only important to make sure the children receive lunch and breakfast at little or no cost to the families but a necessity. It very important for students enter the classroom ready to learn and it is very hard to focus if your stomach is empty. So every morning when the kids get off the bus they make their way to the cafeteria before going to class.

Students and Classroom Welcome to Room 202

26 desks in three rows Technology in the class: Promethean board, overhead projector, one computer for the teacher and a white board. There are six students with IEPs in the class ranging from CI to ADHD. These students have been accommodated in various ways. Two of the students have had the their spelling words cut back each week and as a result of being able to focus on fewer words their grades have gone up. Another student with ADHD was talking to others and not finishing his work. We were able to move his desk to the front of the class and now he is able to focus on the teacher and talks less frequently. We also have a student that is an ESL learner. He is from Yemen and Arabic is his Native Language. I adjust lesson plans as needed to make sure that he has the same learning opportunities as the other students.

Student Selection:
With the aid of my mentor teacher three students were selected for me to follow throughout the geography unit. Student number 1 is a very quiet girl who always gets her work done on time and goes above and beyond what is asked of her. Student number 2 entered the third grade very young and has been given a growth year. She is doing well but still struggles with reading. She is pulled out of class in the morning for extra help. Student number three is a boy who is very gifted at writing but tends to struggle in daily work.
