1. Using Excel, I found the following equations: - Montana State: y=1309.8x+18730 for tuition/fees with room and board, R2=0.9391 y=724.37x+13395 for tuition/fees, R2=0.9981 - Colorado College: y=2762.4x+29062 for tuition/fees with room and board, R2=0.9673 y=1878.2x+24779 for tuition/fees, R2=0.9956 - The R2 values represent how close the data is to linear, where 1 means that it is perfectly linear. Taking this in to account, all of my calculated equations should be pretty close to my excel equations. - Montana State Calculated: Tuition/Fees with room and board: Intercept: Tuition/Fees: ( , Slope= 1212.7, Y), solve for y to get equation: , Slope= 726.4, Y-Intercept:

( ), solve for y to get equation: Colorado College Calculated: Tuition/Fees with room and board: Intercept: Tuition/Fees: ( , Slope= 2934.9, Y), solve for y to get equation:

, Slope= 1883.6, Y-Intercept:

( ), solve for y to get equation: 2. The average percent increase over the last 10 years (calculated below) doesnt seem to relate to the type of institution because their averages are very similar: For MSU, the percent averages were 4% for tuition/fees and 5% for tuition/fees with room/board. For CC, the percent averages were 5% for tuition/fees and 6% for tuition/fees with room/board. - Average % for MSU: Tuition/Fees with room and board: Tuition/Fees: Tuition/Fees with room and board: Tuition/Fees: , Average= 4% , Average= 5% , Average= 6%
( )

, Average= 5%

3. The percent average % increase for my two schools is: - MSU 4-Year Average: Tuition/Fees with room and board: , Average= 4%

Tuition/Fees:

, Average- 3% , Average= 4%

CC 4-Year Average Tuition/Fees with room and board: Tuition/Fees: , Average= 4%

4. For MSU, the tuition didnt have one year that was larger than others. For tuition/fees with room and board, MSUs highest increase was from 2011-2012 to 2012-2013, with a 13% increase. The next largest increase was 12%, but both of these numbers are much higher than the 5% average. Im not sure what event contributed to these larger rises, but my best guess would be that they lost more funding from some source and needed more money. For CC, like MSU, there arent any really high spikes in increase for tuition, but the 2007-2008 school year saw the largest percent increase (7%), but its not far off the average. For tuition, fees, room, and board, the largest increase was 10% from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008. This is twice as much as the average. I would also put this increase down to changes in funding. 5. MSU Total 4-Year: - Tuition, fees, room, and board: $ 145,649.20 - Tuition and fees: $ 92,695.98 CC Total 4-Year: - Tuition, fees, room, and board: $ 265,417.60 - Tuition and fees: $ 200,538.80 6. Overall, Montana State was the least expensive. Using the cheapest loan option for comparison, the standard repayment plan, and cost of tuition, fees, room and board: The difference in principle is , or $ 119,768.40, the difference in interest is , or $ 45,627.44, and the difference in overall money paid back is , or $ 165,395.84.
