Zeta UPSIL ON Alumni Association
Brothers, I hope that this email finds you well. It has been a busy summer with the Kappa Konversation, Conclave and the C. Roger Wilson Leadership Conference. The University of North Texas Athletics, Student Affairs, UNT Advancement & Development, UNT Marketing and Membership and the Department of Business Development & Advancement participated in ZUAA 1st annual Kappa Konversation in July. There were over sixty (60) brothers in Houston for the Conclave. Members of the reinstatement committee attended the CRWLC in Jackson, Mississippi to support and development efforts of reactivating Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity on the campus of UNT. In the coming days and weeks, I will send out updates, new initiatives and upcoming deadlines to keep all brothers of Zeta Upsilon informed so that everyone can actively participate in the process of advancing the goals and objective of the Zeta Upsilon Alumni Association. In the meantime, there are a few things that have been on my mind that I would like to share with you. Zeta Upsilon Alumni Association (ZUAA) was formed and named in part to reunite brothers who were initiated at the University of North Texas. In the last two years, brothers from Zeta

Homecoming -University of North Texas

New Greek Life Center to serve Greek organizations and alumni

Construction has begun on the new UNT Greek Life Center that will provide a site for UNT's Greek alumni to meet and continue their association with the university and serve as a new home to all Greek organizations and the Greek Life administration. UNT is building the 6,000square-foot facility at the corner of Welch and Highland Streets. When the center opens in spring 2014, it will offer an intimate and memorable space for hosting Greek ritual activities and special events. And as a central location for all Greek activities, the new center also will allow Greek organizations' leadership to create a longstanding tradition for students, members, and guests to visit each year during Homecoming and other important campus events, says Maureen McGuinness, dean of students and assistant vice president of student affairs, who oversees

(cont.) UNT Greek Life. Currently, only 16 of the 38 fraternities and sororities on UNT's campus have a chapter facility. As UNT's Greek community continues to grow and expand, the number of organizations without a centralized meeting, ritual and home space continues to grow, McGuinness says. "The Greek Life Center will be the central location for all things Greek at UNT and will serve our entire Greek population," McGuinness says. "By constructing the first ever, stand-alone Greek Life Center in the United States, UNT is showing it's highly committed to the advancement and growth of Greek Life." McGuinness says the new center also will be a prime facility to host alumni events, meetings, and reunions. Courtesy of UNT/ZUUA Staff

81st Grand Chapter Meeting in Houston

KonKlave UPDATE & RECAP ... ZUAA in Houston
Dear Brothers of Zeta Upsilon, I hope this message finds all of you well and in good spirits. For those of you who were in Houston for the 81st Conclave, I hope you had a grand time. For those of you who did not attend, I hope to see you the next time. I didnt say you missed it, because whatever reason you were not here I am sure it was important. The Houston Konnection was very excited to plan events for all Brothers, so we hope you enjoyed the planned events. Although the Conclave started on Tuesday night at the public meeting, many Brothers arrived on Thursday Kappa Alpha Psi Public Meeting (l-r, Bro. Robert for the WelKome to Houston Meet and Greet Mack, Terrance Martin, Nabil Abu lssa, Jonathan Elder Watson Diggs Awardee, and Henry at the Sam Houston Hotel. Brothers from every Hicks, Milton decade were represented, especially Brother Bruce Johnson from Beta Upsilon. Charter Line Members Samuel Golden and Ronald Jones were in attendance as well to round out the start of a great weekend. A great start to many other great events. On Friday, Brothers were treated to a Kool Houston Day at the picnic which featured a Kane Competition by old and new school Brothers. Our very own Robert Mack (Spring 90) jumped in the mix to represent Zeta Upsilon. Saturday, the Brothers went bowling at the Lucky Strikes before the evening events at the host Hotel. We had lots of fun and enjoyed stories of ZU days gone and to come.

Zeta Upsilon Brothers from all over the world came to enjoy the Conclave in Houston. We saw Brothers who we had not seen in years, had line reunions and definitely set the tone for future events. I hope you enjoyed our city and look forward to seeing all of you at Homecoming. Yours in the Bond, Henry Milton - Fall 1988

CRWLC..contd pg. 1 Friday at CRWLC Friday was a full day of CRWLC workshops for undergraduate and alumni brothers to attend. Brothers Dr. Reginald Rigsby and Ray Haze conducted MIOP Training during the morning session. Also during Friday morning sessions were Chapter Advisor workshops where brothers can obtain information on requirements to become a chapter advisor and Introduction to Investigations and Hearings workshop. Grand Polemarch Town Hall Meeting Bro. Grand Polemarch Bates held a Town Hall meeting during the CRWLC. Some of Bro. Grand Polemarch Bates comments during his Town Hall meeting including: He was extremely satisfied with the Grand Chapter meeting in August and looks forward to the next Grand Chapter meeting hosted in New Orleans, LA in August 2015. He was very complimentary and supportive of this past summers Kappa Kamp held on the campus of Paul Quinn College. Kappa Kamp held over 100 young black males attended. Bro. Grand Polemarch Bates stressed that he felt it is important for young high school black males to simulate for a week the college experience on a collegiate campus. He also mentioned the Fraternitys relationship and support of Piney Woods school. For many years the Fraternity has been a benefactor of the school and Bro. Grand Polemarch Bates hopes to continue this relationship. Bro. Grand Polemarch Bates also stressed that his administration is extremely concerned with the progressively declining rates of black males attending college. His administration is focused on supporting programs such as Kappa Kamp, Guide Right and Kappa League to get young black males thinking about college and is focused on supporting scholarship and other programs that help black males achieve the means to attend college. Saturday at CRWLC Brother Keith Campbell, provincial Chapter Reactivation chairman, provided a short overview of required steps and forms that must be initiated by the advising chapter, which in Zeta Upsilons case is Richardson-Plano Alumni. Key points in Bro. Campbells remarks were:

Need to set up an Advisory Committee designated by the advising alumni chapter; Provincial Polemarch must approve chapter reactivation process prior to moving forward; Letter of Support from the university to province concerning the universitys position on reactivation of a Kappa chapter to their campus. In the Zeta Upsilons case, this Letter of Support would be generated by the UNT Dean of Students office; Chapter on suspension must meet the terms of its suspension prior to reactivation. Article contributed by Brother Aaron Williams
..continued from cover page.Upsilon have come together from

four decades 1970 to 2010. There are now many more brothers calling for a change; but I find that somewhat ironic because for the last two years, brothers have been slow about getting involved in the process. Recently, brothers have experienced reunions and brotherhood activities that will last a lifetime which has given us momentum to support ZUAA efforts. Change is inevitable, but the resistance of change is counter-productive and undermines the process. However, I want to thank everyone who has participated in this process and supported the efforts of the alumni association. Here is an update of the progress towards the goals and objectives set forth since October2011. ZUAA foundation was based on four (4) principles: Reclamation, Reconciliation, Rebranding and Reinstatement. Reclamationalumni brothers have renewed their membership to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, joined local alumni chapters, and became active in the fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi-Achievement. Reconciliationalumni brothers have apologized for not supporting the undergraduate chapter of Zeta Upsilon after leaving college, they have mended relationships between their line brothers (LBs) and other brothers from their eras, plus they have accepted responsibility surrounding the substances that lead to the suspension of the chapter. Rebranding..alumni brothers have participated in building a new positive image with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity locally and nationally, with the Alumni Chapter Advisor & Alumni Chapter plus ZUAA brothers have supported and contributed to the advancement of the University of North Texas. Reinstatement..alumni brothers have reengaged themselves in the process of activating their undergraduate chapter, attended fraternal meetings and leadership conferences such as Conclave, Province meetings and CRWLC plus, brothers have joined and became active with the Alumni Advising Chapter who is responsible for developing the process to bring Zeta Upsilon back. Finally brothers, structure is the process of getting things done. Without structure there no plan and if theres no plan, theres no direction. Remember brothers.. ONE Kappa; One Direction, in ACHIEVEMENT.IN PHI NU PIsee everyone at Homecoming in November. Richard Wills Nitty 76 Chairman ZUAA Zeta Upsilon Alumni Association
