Dear Parents, We are preparing for the 6th grade, mid-term (semester), Language Arts exam.

Each component of the exam serves as a review of skills covered during the first two quarters. The following is a summary/study guide to help your child prepare for the exam. Figurative Language: The students will be required to define, identify and/or create examples of eight different types of figurative language. *Refer to your childs Language Arts composition notebook and the PowerPoint presentation on our class website. Text Structures/Thinking Maps: The students should be familiar with the text structures listed below. After reading a sample paragraph, students will be asked to identify the text structure and the Thinking Map that should be used to present information within the given paragraph. Students can refer to their Text Structures in their composition book and the PowerPoint presentation on our class website.

Students will read a short passage and create a model (story map or mountain) that includes all of the above elements for the given passage. *Refer to LA spiral notebook notebook.
