Lesson: Number Story I. Goals 1) Standards 2.1.3.

.A: Apply one-to-one correspondence and number patterns to count up and count back and to compare values of whole numbers and number systems. M3.A.1: Demonstrate an understanding of numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers and number systems. M3.A.1.1.5: Match a symbolic representation of numbers to appropriate whole numbers (e.g., base ten blocks, 7 hundreds, 4 tens and 8 ones, etc.) Creativity and Innovation o Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues Communication and Collaboration o Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning others. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a very of digital environments and media Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems. Technology Operations and Concepts o Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Understand and use technology systems. Transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies. 2) Behavioral Objectives Students will be able to: o Comprehend simple adding and subtracting problems Standard 2.1.3.A: Apply one-to-one correspondence and number patterns to count up and count back and

to compare values of whole numbers and number systems. M3.A.1: Demonstrate an understanding of numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers and number systems. o Understand how to use SmartNotebook Standards Technology Operations and Concepts o Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Understand and use technology systems. Transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies. o Apply their own knowledge on adding/subtracting to create their own problems and story Standards M3.A.1: Demonstrate an understanding of numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers and number systems. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues o Learn how to cooperate with other students Standards Communication and Collaboration o Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning others.

3) Enduring Understandings I want students to be able to apply adding/subtracting to real life situations 4) Essential Questions What real life situation will students face where adding/subtracting come into play? II. Assessment I will know my objects have been met by: o Formal Assessments Presenting my students with a worksheet on adding/subtracting to complete before and after my lesson is finished for points Objective: Comprehend simple adding and subtracting problems o Informal Assessments Observing my students as they present their projects Objective: Apply their own knowledge on adding/subtracting to create their own problems and story Objective: Understand how to use SmartNotebook Observing the stories that they come up with for their own adding/subtracting problems Objective: Apply their own knowledge on adding/subtracting to create their own problems and story Monitor how they work in their groups to create and present their stories Objective: Learn how to cooperate with other students III. Procedures 1) Materials Adding/Subtracting Worksheets Smart Board

Computers with Internet SmartNotebook Software Flash Drive 2) Procedures Students will be given adding/subtracting worksheet to complete as much as they can in 5 minutes o T: Hand out the worksheets, observe the students as they complete them, and keep time o S: The students will complete their adding/subtracting worksheet as much as they can before time runs out Worksheets will be collected when the 5 minutes is up o T: Collect the worksheets o S: Hand in worksheets The adding/subtracting lesson will begin by using the Smart Board o T: Will introduce the lesson and ask the students to take out their notebooks o S: Take out their notebooks to take notes The lesson will begin with the teacher explaining the concepts of adding/subtracting and giving example problems o T: Show the concept of adding/subtracting and call students to participate with the example problems o S: Will take notes on the lesson and participate in group discussion After the lesson is complete students will be presented with an assignment o T: Will explain to the students that they will be placed into groups of 3 to work on a project dealing with adding/subtracting; also the teacher will assign them a computer o S: Will move according to the groups they are placed in and move to computers The assignment will be explained to them by the teacher o T: Shows the students an example project that she created. Tells them they will be using SmartNotebook Software to create a story using pictures/clip art to represent adding and or subtraction problems. Students will also write their stories with text to explain what is happening. o S: Pay attention as the teacher describes to them what they are going to be doing The teacher allows the students to begin their assignments and at the end of the day they will present them o T: Monitors as the students work the assignment and answers any questions they may have o S: Work on their assignments on the computer

At the end of the day the projects will be presented to the class on the Smart Board o T: Place all of the kids projects on a flash drive and watch as they present their projects to the class o S: Will present their projects to the class by reading their stories they created After all of the students have gone they will be handed another worksheet with adding/subtracting to be completed within 5 minutes o T: Hand out the worksheets, observe the students as they complete them, and keep time o S: Will complete their adding/subtracting worksheets as much as they can before time runs out The worksheet will be turned in and after the school day is over the two worksheets the students completed will be a compared to see if they understand the concept of adding/subtracting o T: Collect the worksheet, look over the worksheets and if the students improved the get a 10/10 but if they still had trouble they will receive a 9/10 o S: Turn in their second worksheet and will leave for the day 3) Adaptations One of my students is a English Language Learner o I would provide my student who is an ELL with the worksheet in their language and also provide them with a hard copy of my lesson that will be shown on the Smart Board in their language One of my students has a loss of hearing. o I will provide them with a voice recording of my lesson.
