-1441 -This marks the beginning of the European slave trade in Africa. The first slaves were sent to Portugal with the blessings from the Catholic Church.

-1510 -They started to be sent to South America and continue all over to other countries. This marks the year when slavery began in South America.

-1822 -The American Colonization Society was formed to send free African-Americans to Africa instead of being emancipated in the United States.

-1910 -This is when South Africa frees away from everyone and becomes its own independent nation

-1914 -Africa was divided among the colonial powers during the war.

-1920 to 1930 -Black Nationalism and anti-colonial political movements in Africa are reflected in the literature

-1980 -This was a time period where Africa experienced one of the worst droughts they ever had. It was very serious and they lost a lot from it.

-1980 -Zimbabwe which used to be known as Southern Rhodesia gained independence from the white settler population

-African Union takes over

-2001 -After 38 years, the Organization for African Unity (OAU) was replaced with the African Union
