COURSE DESCRIPTION General review of refining processes of crude oil. Shortcut methods for practical design calculations. Design of atmospheric, vacuum, and pressure columns for petroleum fractionation, including auxiliary furnaces and condensers. Recent developments in heavy oil processing. REF. BOOK PREREQUISITE OBJECTIVE

To study the overall refinery flow including physical separation operations and chemical conversion processes, and to learn basic calculations and methods used to design and run petroleum refining facilities. TOPICS Refinery feedstocks Processing of crude oil Desalting Distillation Case study and solved examples Chemical conversion processes: for liquids (coking, visbreaking) Catalytic Cracking and Catalytic Hydrocracking Hydrotreating Catalytic Reforming Isomerization Product Blending Supporting processes and gas recovery systems Economic analysis
