Congratulations to Woodruff Manors very own Crystal Lewis, winner of the 2013 All About Seniors Caregiver Award in a Skilled Nursing Facility. The announcement was made on Thursday evening, May 23rd, at a ceremony and dinner Crystal Lewis, Woodruff Manors held at The Hilton Hotel Activities Director in Greenville, SC, where all nominees and supporters gathered for the announcement. Crystal was nominated by her peers at Woodruff Manor for her tremendous devotion to our residents. As stated in our letter of nomination, Besides Crystals graceful patience and selfless service, she demonstrates pure kindness and love that is often talked about but rarely
practiced. It is Crystals goal and pride to know each resident on a personal level. Crystals dedication to her job is an understatement. Not only is she the leader of our activities program, but she is also a very active participant throughout Woodruff Manor and within the Woodruff community. The residents and staff alike love her and appreciate the largest to the smallest acts of kindness she extends to all of us on a daily basis. Crystal is a truly unique individual. She is the light of Woodruff Manor, and we are all so lucky to experience what she shares with each and every one of us.

June 14 is Flag Day in the U.S., and it celebrates when John Adams introduced a resolution about the new flag to the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The resolution stated, Resolved, that the flag of the thirteenth United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white, that the union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation. The first flag of the U.S. had a star and stripe for each of the 13 colonies. The symbolism of the flag was interpreted by
George Washington by saying, We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing Liberty. The colors on the flag have the following meanings: RED = hardiness & valor WHITE = purity & innocence BLUE = vigilance, perserverance, & justice. Since 1777, the flag has been changed 26 times. The last change to the flag was after Hawaii was admitted into the Union in 1959.
