Introduction

The principal in our school has brought our class a challenge. He has brought 2 mystery boxes to our room. He has asked for you and your partner to help him figure out what is inside the boxes without opening them. You will need to use your 5 senses to figure out what the mystery items are.

Task

Your task is to work with your partner and learn about the 5 senses and what body parts are used for each sense. Tasks

Process

Step 1: Listen to the song My 5 Senses

What body parts do you use for seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling and tasting?

Step 2: Play a game with Sid the Science Kid. Click on the link below. http://pbskids.org/sid/isense.html Step 3: Watch a video about Paz when he uses his senses to help find his Grandpas glasses.

Process

Step 4:
Choose 1 person to go get the boxes. With out looking in the box, each of you will take turns touching, smelling and listening to what is in box number 1. Try to figure out together what is in the box. Describe to one another what you are feeling, smelling and hearing. Complete the same steps for box number 2 Write on your paper what you think is in box number 1 and 2. Turn your paper in. Look inside the boxes and see what the mystery items were.

Evaluation

Congratulations on helping our principal figure out what was inside the mystery boxes! Now you have learned more about the 5 senses and how they help us learn about the things around us.

This website is geared towards early elementary. Students may need help reading the instructions for the WebQuest. There is some preparation that needs to be done ahead of time before this WebQuest can be used.
