SUPPORT IN PLANTS

NECESSITY FOR SUPPORT IN

PLANTS
• Plants need support to grow towards sunlight in
order for photosynthesis to take place.
• Leaves of plants need to be properly positioned
for maximum absorption of light.
• Flowers also need to be seen clearly to attract
insect for pollination
• Fruits need to be placed in strategic places on
the plant for effective dispersal of seeds
SUPPORT IN AQUATIC PLANTS
• Aquatic plants do not have woody tissues
because the natural buoyancy of the water
helps them to float
• The stems have plenty of air sacs which
reduce their density and keep them light.
• The tissues are known as aerenchyma
tissues
• Air sacs can be found on the stems and
leaves.
• Ex: Hyacinth, Hydrilla and Elodea
• Aerenchyma
