Integrated Lessons Block Plan

Day 1 Lesson Objective(s) Day 2 Day 3 How Wind Effects Air Students will create questions relating to a scientific topic and form a hypothesis about the topics. Students will record observations of an experiment as they use the scientific process. Students will explain the impact that wind has on air. Students will identify that wind moves things, even air. Students will use the question, What is your favorite time of the year? Why? and write a brief narrative describing why a certain time of the year is their favorite, and use weather related words to tell why this is. Day 5 Severe Weather Students will create questions relating to a scientific topic and for a hypothesis about the topics. Students will record observations of experiments as they use the scientific process. Students will explain what severe weather means. Students will identify the impact severe weather can have on the environment. SCI.2.2.1 2010, SCI.2.2.6 2010

Experiment Zone- In groups, students will throw a ball of paper into a trash can with increasing amounts of wind. During this time other students will be completing chart on how wind is and is not helpful. Informal assessment on hypothesis at Experiment Zone. Collection of charts at end of class.

Student will answer 10 interview questions, and then expand on the question, What is your favorite time of the year? Why? They will use weather vocabulary.

Adding severe weather to an environment and hypothesizing what will occur with the different situations. Students will identify precautions that should be taken during severe weather as a group. Students will be creating a PSA telling their classmates about precautions they can take during severe weather. I will also be collecting their paper containing their hypothesis. I will conduct experiment and allow students to observe in order to keep students safe.

I will monitor students while they are writing. I will assess students as they share their brief paragraph with the class.
