Formation Pressure Testing & Fluid Sampling using Reservoir Characterization Instrument (RCI) Abstract:

The formation testing service provides key petrophysical information to determine the reservoir volume, producibility of a formation, type and composition of the movable fluids, and to predict reservoir behavior during production. All these factors decide suitable completion design and other surface facilities to process hydrocarbon, handle associated solids and also the final production installation which are high cost affairs. This illustrates the requirement of quality sample collection having minimal contamination as well as correct formation data to a high degree of accuracy to predict reservoir behaviour as accurately as possible. The Reservoir Characterization nstrument !RC " service provides a more complete description of reservoir fluid behavior through the measurement and control of pressure, volume, and temperature changes than is possible with conventional testing systems. #nhanced fluid sampling capability as well as improved reservoir description is product of a unique industry first $ real%time in% situ phase separation pressure measurements that ensure true representative reservoir fluid samples are collected. The RC &s modularity provides the ability to test and sample fluids in a wide range of geological environments and borehole conditions ' also offer effective recovery of multiple samples with large sample volume !()*cc per tank". The paper discusses key features ' functioning of RC with e+amples that illustrate the quality of the sample, the analysis process and advantages of RC over other similar tools for formation pressure testing and fluid sampling.
