Task #1: Analyzing and Gathering Research 1.

Abortion: The Patriot Party believes that women should have the right to do what they want with their own body. However only if the woman's life is in danger, she is pregnant because of rape, or the childs life is in danger should they get the choice. This will limit the amount of government interference, but they can still have the right to step in and take control when the women is just getting an abortion for an unreasonable decision (not wanting to have any more kids). We believe in this stitution it should be illegal. Connection to Founding Fathers: This relates to the founding fathers ideals of equality and individual responsibility. It relates to equality because everyone should be treated the same, and have the right to their own privacy and bodies. However, the unborn child in the pregnancy should also have the right to equality. We believe this because it would not be fair to end its life, while keeping the life of a different child in another womans pregnancy. This belief also relates to individual responsibility because it is not up to the government to decide what should be done unless it is an extreme case. This individual responsibility was put into effect on women and their bodies with the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade. This way people still have a lot of freedom and do what they believe is right. Agreement with Political Culture: Most Conservatives and Liberals believe that abortion should be legal in cases of rape, and harm to the mother or baby. It is more of the extreme cases that most conservatives view as illegal. We believe that this is why people want abortion to be illegal, due to have perceiving ending an unborn, helpless childs life as morally wrong. Reaction from Classes: We believe that most non-christian people will be content with our position on abortion due to the fact that abortion should only be legal when harm is possible for the mother or child, or the baby was conceived due to rape. The strong conservatives (mainly of the christian faith) may not be as pleased with this decision because they believe abortion is a sin no matter what. We think that women will be, for the most part, okay with this decision, however some extremely liberal women would disagree with it due to the government limiting the freedom that they have to the right to, proven by the Roe v. Wade case.

2. Gay Marriage: The Patriot Party believes that gay marriage should be allowed in states, however only if the state legislator decides that it should be legal. This way the federal government does not have a huge role in determining if the situation should be legal or illegal. So the more conservative states could make it illegal and the more liberal states could allow it. This way the state government is responding more to the local needs of their citizens instead of making everyone have to legalize it or make it illegal. Connection to Founding Fathers: Gay marriage relates to the founding fathers ideals of equality because it gives people the right to choose who they want to enter into a marriage with. It also relates to liberty because it gives people the freedom and the right to marry and be with who they choose to be with. Agreement with Political Culture: Political culture does not agree on whether gay marriage should be legal or not, due to everyone different political ideologies. The conservatives want more government regulation in the social beliefs so they are against it, however the liberals believe that it should be legal, because they want everyone to have the right to choose how they

want to live there life. Since some states have legalized gay marriage, the conservatives in that state are concerned and unhappy with that decision. However, we think Leominster will be happy with this decision since they are a mostly liberal town. Reaction from Classes: Yes, different members from different regions have different reactions about the issue of gay marriage. For example, the South is more against gay marriage because they are more conservative, whereas the North, tends to be more liberal, so it is not as big of an issue. Gender also plays a role in gay marriage because women are more likely to allow it, than men. This could affect the results of an outcome when talking about gay marriage because women are more nurturing and emotional on issues such as this. 3. Taxes: The Patriot Party believes that the taxes for the rich and the poor should pretty much stay the same as they are now, we believe in not raising the taxes any more than they are now, however we dont want to lower them anymore either. This way the federal government will make sure that all the taxes throughout the nation are equal for each state, and not one state could charge more or less than the uniform tax level. The state government would not play a huge role in this issue because it would lead to unfair amount of taxes for each state, and we believe in equality. Connection to Founding Fathers:The issue of taxes relates to the founding fathers ideals of civic duty. The founders believed that it is the citizens right to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the government. By paying the taxes, the citizens are helping keep their community safe and a good place to live in. Individual responsibility relates to the tax issue because each citizen is expected to help out and contribute to society. By continue to agree to pay taxes, it helps things such as the education system and welfare be possible. Agreement with Political Culture: Political culture does agree that everyone should pay taxes, even though they are not happy with it. However the political culture would disagree with how the tax issue is carried out by society due to the high taxes. Reaction from Classes: The social class will feel the most strongly about tax issue because the high class believes they are being taxed too much, whereas the lower class believes that since they have less money than the higher class that they too are being taxed too much. However, the lower class also thinks that the higher class should be taxed more because their income is greater than that of their own. 4. Gap between rich and poor: The Patriot Party believes that there should be a happy medium between the two classes, there should not be a huge gap between the rich and the poor. We believe in trying to get the poverty level down, so there is not such a big gap between the different classes, however there is still a little bit of definite variation between the higher class and the lower class. We want to try to get the poor class and the middle class to combine to become one class, the middle class. This way the differences between each class are still different, just not as much so the economy can improve. The federal government would play a minor role in this issue, because they have to have more job opportunities to get people off of welfare. However, the major role is mainly played by a state government by responding to each citys and states local needs to get the poverty level down. Connection to Founding Fathers: The gap between the rich and the poor relates to the founding fathers beliefs on equality because the American belief is that everyone should have the same

opportunities. In this case, equality of opportunity is not present because the higher class has more advantages and better standard of living than the lower class. Agreement with Political Culture: The American political culture is in disagreement between the different levels of classes. For example, the higher class wants a definite amount of space between themselves and that of the lower class. Whereas the lower class is upset with their own level of poverty and wish to become more like the middle and higher classes. Reaction from Classes: The different social classes are clearly in disagreement with what standard of living they should be at as mentioned above. The minorities also have a disagreement with the gap due to the fact that they are usually overpowered by the majority and generally have a lower standard of living with more poverty. 5. Welfare stitution: Since polls show about 81% of people who receive welfare are physically able to work, the Patriot Party believes that we should gently encourage people to start getting back into the workforce, one step at at time. We want people who are able to, to work, however we dont want to force them too much, because it would cause problems later on. We would have the state government come up with new plans for much more low- qualified jobs that have a decent pay, and sign the welfare recipients up who are able to work, so we can slowly, but surely get them back out there, making their own money. We would have the state government come up with these plans to bend the local needs into place. For example, more conservative states will have a bigger push for welfare to stop, while the more liberal states can take it slowlier to ensure less problems later down the line. Connection to Founding Fathers: The welfare issue relates to the founders beliefs on democracy by making sure that everyone has an equal say in how much government aid they need due to their own unique stitutions and problems. Equality also relates to the founders beliefs by making sure that everyone has about the same help and treatment so that no one person has the lowest poverty level and lowest standard of living. Agreement with Political Culture: The American political culture agrees that everyone should get help if they need it, however they disagree with how it is carried out in society because most of the welfare recipients are physically able to work, they just choose not to. Most Americans just want welfare to be fair and equal to the people who really need it. Reaction from Classes: The social classes disagree about welfare because the higher classes dont think it is necessary for the government to supply it. Whereas the lower class feels it is absolutely necessary to have welfare because most of them rely heavily on welfare due to the lower employment rate.

Task #4 Political Cartoons

In this political cartoon, the author is supporting the idea that it is the states decision to choose whether gay marriage is allowed or not. This goes along with the beliefs of Leominster because we support the idea that the states chose whether or not gay marriage is allowed in that state.

In this political cartoon, the author is portraying that abortion pills should not be just handed out to anyone. Leominster shares this view. We believe that a woman should have the right to have an abortion, but the reason for her abortion must be reasonable, such as a health problem. The woman should not have an abortion just because she does not want a baby.
