Dear Parents, Our new Unit of Inquiry is under the organizing theme of Who We Are.

The central idea is: Changes that occur as we grow influence what we understand and what we can do. We will be inquiring into this through the concepts of change and reflection. The following lines of inquiry will help define the scope of the inquiry into the central idea:

What we know and what we can do How we grow and change How our growth helps us set goals for the future

Through this Unit we hope that the students will understand that changes happen as people grow. Inquiring into things they can do at this age and comparing what people can do at different stages in their lives, will hopefully enable the children to reflect on their growth (for instance social, physical and emotional) and to set their own goals. There will be opportunities to explore transdisciplinary maths through engagements related to data handling and measurement. Some suggestions for parents to help us support this Unit would be through providing: Photos of the children when they were babies (digital copies are fine too- we can print them out at school) Childrens height at birth Parents are welcome to come in to share their childs baby development stories; well also be looking at the differences between what adults can do versus children. At home parents can talk with their children about concepts like independence, influence (things that influence our growth) etc.

If you would like to assist in any other way, please contact your childs teacher. The EY Team
