Nampa Wastewater Treatment Plant Biogas Boiler Project

For this project the City of Nampa purchased and installed two biogas-fueled boilers, a heat exchanger, and related heat conveyance equipment and piping at its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The new system will provide heat to the plants an aerobic digesters and the Administration Building. These digesters convert raw sludge to relatively inert sludge which in turn generates the biogas as byproduct. The biogas is then in turn drawn from the digesters to fuel the boilers. The new boiler system will give the WWTP adequate heating capacity and redundancy for the foreseeable future. In addition, the heat exchanger will give the City WWTP adequate redundancy for heating the digesters with the biogas fueled boilers which heat the hot water for the heat exchangers. The project will provide 5 million BTU per hour of useable energy. The project included the following several steps: 1. obtaining the Grant 2. coordinating and contracting for the procurement and installation 3. procurement of the equipment 4. installation of the equipment 5. startup and testing of the equipment Boilers Prior to the boilers being installed, an old generator was to be demolished to provide room for the new boilers. The photographic sequence of the project is shown in Figures 1-3. The boilers were then tested, adjusted and put into operation.
