TO: Harvey Fretwell, Mayor
Charles Swann, City Administrator
FROM: Flora Gay, Director FG-
Planning and Zoning
REF: Northport Gin Complex
DATE: April 26, 2006
On January 25, 2006, I received a letter from Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, State Historic Preservation Officer,
stating that the City of Northport needs to appropriately document the Barnes and Norris Gin
Complex. I was informed by the Mayor that Stonegate is ready to proceed with the demolition of the
gins. At the request of the Mayor, per the requirements from Elizabeth to document the Northport
Gin Complex, I contacted Mr. David B. Schneider, who is a historic preservationist. Mr. Schneider
has experience in HABS (Historic American Building Survey) and comes highly recommended by Dr.
Darrell Meyer. I faxed him a copy of the letter I received from Mrs. Brown stating what should be
included in the documentation. Mr. Schneider stated he would give me a call on Thursday, April 27,
2006, to inform me of the cost to perform the required services. I'also informed Mr. Schneider that we
would need this documentation within two weeks if possible. He is working on a project in the City
of Tuscaloosa and feels that he can complete the project within a timely manner.CITY OF NORTHPORT
