edu Portfolio: To Whom It May Concern, I am Anna Vequist , a current student at Emporia State University. In May 2014, I will be earning a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. I am pleased to be sending my resume for an elementary teaching position in the Emporia district because I am excited about the educational program USD 253 provides for the community. As a part of the Professional Development School I attended at Emporia State University, I was required to complete one year of student teaching. I completed half of this at Timmerman Elementary. Laurie Kurzen was my mentor. From this experience, I obtained experience with Literacy First program from being in the classroom and from district wide training sessions. Emporia State also provided training sessions for the PDS program regarding students in poverty, Kansas College and Career Readiness Standards, and multitiered intervention system (more commonly known as MTSS). We had several in depth training sessions on how to read, work, integrate, and interpret our Kansas standards. I have put together several lessons and units together that are aligned with Kansas College and Career Readiness standards. In the present time, I am teaching preschoolers every Sunday morning at a local church nursery. During this time I have the opportunity to engage with young children of many ages and work with them on simple reading skills and other similar activities. In the past I have worked at a licensed day care facility with children ranging from ages 3-5 years old. In the time working there, I was able to lead small activities and plan lessons for the children on a daily basis. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing, and most of all patient. My plans in education are to teach for a number of years before I go back to school for a Masters level degree in Hearing Speech and Language. I encourage learning by creating a classroom environment that students feel that they are a part by having classroom roles. A positive learning environment sets the tone of the classroom. I am a big proponent of giving positive feedback to my students so each student can leave with a bag full of confidence. Lastly, I plan lesson plans that integrate the multiple levels of intelligence to fit the needs of my students. It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to your school district. I would welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Anna Vequist
