Appendix A- Provide an overview of your project:

For this project I plan on using the software Rosetta Stone to help the English Language Learners (ELL) within my school building. The software would be used with students in grades Kindergarten and First. The Rosetta Stone software helps students gain knowledge in speaking, reading, writing and understanding the English language with the use of games and fun activities. This project will help the ELL students within my building gain knowledge in the English language. Students will have the potential to better understand the instructional content that their teachers are teaching and also the potential to help stay at grade level in the content areas of reading, writing and math. This in return will help the school district achieve their goal for Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) and also keep the students on Individual Education Plans (IEP) low. The project idea is to have students work in a one to one ratio or one teacher to two students ratio in completing the lessons. As students get familiar with the software, students can start to work independently on the activities. The software will be used on student laptops that the school district will provide.

Appendix B- How will your project help vulnerable children succeed?

This project will help the ELL students within my school building succeed by helping them learn the English Language, which will then help them succeed in school throughout their education. Giving them the opportunity to start young in learning English will help them continue to advance their learning in their later school years.

Appendix C- What specific outcomes do you expect to achieve?

The specific outcomes that I expect to achieve through the use of the Rosetta Stone software is two folds. One there are outcomes that I except for the ELL students and two, there are outcomes that I except for my school district. For ELL Students: 1. Students will gain knowledge in reading, writing and speaking English. Students will be able to use the recognition software to help them in speaking and they will receive instant feedback on how they are speaking. The pictures that are used will help them in the reading and writing of English. 2. Students will be able to interact with their peers and teachers better. 3. Students will gain confidence in themselves when they are able to learn in both languages. For the School District: 1. The School will meet AYP since the ELL students within the district can understand the language that the tests are given in. 2. The number of students identified for IEPs will be lower when ELL students are given an accommodation to help in their learning of English. 3. The community-school relationship will gain strength by making learning English a priority for the ELL students.

Appendix D- Project Plan The plan for this project is as follows: 1. The Rosetta Stone software will be uploaded to the school laptops for student use. 2. Students will start using the Rosetta Stone software when school starts in September. 3. As students progress through the lessons and activities, teachers will monitor their progress and offer supplemental lessons when needed. 4. At each nine weeks teachers will meet to discuss how students are doing within the program and also how they are doing within the classroom setting. 5. Students will stop the Rosetta Stone software when the school year ends in June, but will pick up where they left off again for following school year. 6. Teachers and Administrators will discuss how the program worked within the schedule of the school day and also the benefits and limitations of the program at the end of the year.

Appendix E- Assessment Plan

The Rosetta Stone software offers a way for teachers and parents of students in the program to manage and track progress. The Rosetta Stone software has an order to the lessons and activities that students complete. As students complete the lessons and activities, teachers can monitor how the student is doing within the lessons and how fast they are completing the activities. This measuring system allows teachers to identify areas where students may require additional attention and also allows teachers to find a students strengths and weaknesses. This software is an all-in-one program. There will be no additional costs to my district to buy other language assessments to help in assessing our ELL students.
