Email

Email is an essential way of communicating with students, parents, coworkers, and peers in the profession. Depending on the school and teaching situation, email could be used to send daily homework reminders, assignments with links to web exercises, school and class announcements, and ask why a student has stopped attending class. In return students can use email to ask the teacher a question, seek clarification, turn in weekly learning journals, send in PowerPoint presentations, and communicate with each other. In a 5-8 sentence paragraph, discuss the ways you have used email at BYUH and in your education. Give specific examples.

Answer:
Email plays a big role in BYUH. Most teachers use email to communicate with students. The announcements and grades of Canvas are also connected with email. If I do not check my email every day, I will probably miss a lot of first hand information. Teachers and students usually check their email few times every day. Therefore, email is also the fastest way to contact with my teacher if I have any questions or concerns about the class. When you send email, you can put the recipients address in one of three different areas (To, Cc, Bcc). If you put it in the To area, then all recipients will be able to see who the email was sent to and also be able to reply to everyone. Youll have to do a little web research to find out why someone would use Cc and Bcc. (on your BYUH email account, you may have to click on options to show Bcc) What does Cc mean and in what situations would you use it?

Answer:
Cc means Carbon Copy. You use it when you are sending people a copy for their information. What does Bcc mean and in what situations would you use it?

Answer:
Bcc means Blind Carbon Copy. You use it when you are sending people a copy, and you dont wish the other recipients to see that you sent it to this contact.

Email is also a great way to keep informed. When you join a professional group such as Hawaii TESOL, the primary way of learning about the events and conferences is through email. There are also many online discussion groups that use email. You can also subscribe to free online magazines and they will notify you when the next issue is available.

Web Address:
I found a website about ESL groups. The website is http://esl.meetup.com/. Meetup is the worlds largest network of local groups. It makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities. I can find the ESL group in Hong Kong and join their activities. The way to sign up is to click the sign up button and fill in the information.

Using folders and rules is a great way to keep your email organized. By adding a folder in your inbox and then by making a rule such as Put all email that contains the words in the subject line TESOL 302 Assignment 1 into the Assignment 1 folder. helps me to keep assignments students email in order. I also do this when I join an email group or listserv. That way I can keep the email from that various groups separated from each other and from my email that needs immediate attention. Some students make a folder and a rule so that all the Student Bulletins they receive go into a separate email folder.

Create a folder in your inbox for one or more of the email groups you have joined. Make a rule telling your email account to automatically put email from that group into that folder. After you receive 3 or more email from that group, do a print screen of that folder showing that your rule is working.

List a few things you have learned from reading the ESL email sent to you.

Answer:
I learned some latest news from the email that I got. Meetup.com usually sends me some news about the ESL teachers all over the world daily. It also gives me some suggestions that what ESL groups I could join so I can learn from different ESL teachers. TESOL English Language Bulletin sends me some news weekly that is relevant for me in the TESOL field. Discuss the type of language used in email. Is it formal or informal?

Answer:
The type of language that I used in email is formal. It is because I usually communicate with my teachers and the school through email. When I talk with people with higher authority, I will use formal language because it can show your respect to them. I will check my spelling and grammar and see if it is correct. Therefore, I think using formal language is better in this kind of conversation.

Discuss the type of language used when texting, blogging, or tweeting. Is it formal or informal? Does it follow grammar rules?

Answer:

The type of language that I used in texting or blogging is informal. I usually do not follow the grammar rules and use casual language such as gonna and wanna. It is because I am talking with my friends, and we do not care about using formal or informal language. We just need to understand each other and use a language that we can communicate.
