2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Introductory course for the practical nursing student with emphasis placed on nursing process and critical thinking, documentation, legal/ethical issues, promotion and maintenance of health, basic nursing skills, communication, medication administration and psychosocial integrity. The total enrollment of students in the program is 40 with 24 attending day classes and 16 attending evening classes. This course is taught in a traditional classroom environment of 7 hours per week, laboratory of 6 hours per week and clinical of 6 hours per week. Two instructors share responsibility for the course and co-instruct the classroom and laboratory skills in addition to the clinical component. 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 This course includes more advanced concepts as related to the practical nurses caregiver role. Content includes care of the obstetrical and newborn client, the surgical client, alterations in fluid/electrolytes, respiratory alterations, healthcare delivery, alterations in nutrition, bowel and urinary, cardiovascular function and alterations in protective mechanisms and comfort. Student enrollment remains the same throughout the program of 3 semesters as does the two instructors who are responsible for classroom of 8 hours per week and clinical time of 12 hours per week.

Student enrollment remains the same throughout the program of 3 semesters as does the two instructors who are responsible for classroom of 6 hours per week and clinical time of 12 hours per week.
