“ ”
My life is different because I feel more comfortable in different situations. What Lou said about stretching
our comfort zones and letting our imaginations fill in the rest has stuck out to me. I feel better going into
unknown situations now than I did before the seminar.
“ ”
.
I think I have been conscious and sensitive to the way I think and also the impact of how I think makes
me feel. I notice if someone says something negative about me or someone else that I cannot give sanc-
tion to it or else I feel bad and my energy feels drained. I have to continually remind myself to always

be
building myself up and if something goes wrong to be constantly looking toward the next time.
“
The affirmations had the strongest impact on me. I use them every day, and I feel like they have really
helped my positive state of mind. Also setting goals beyond what I necessarily would have. I have been
setting very high goals for myself and it makes me work harder to achieve them. ”
“ ”
.
I have shared a lot of the goal concepts with my team. We have all really been working on setting high
goals and one of them is no negative talk on deck or in the pool. It has changed the atmosphere of the
workouts from being dull to a lot more energy and excitement.
“ ”
.
The second thing was not really a topic that we covered, but it was realizing the impact that we have on
others. Like Lou’s example of the mother who tells her young daughter in the heat of the moment, “get
away from me, I don’t love you, etc.” and how that young girl has probably replayed that in her head.
hundreds of times. I had a coach who told me when I was 11 years old that I was the biggest waste, no
talent swimmer he’d ever seen. I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve relived that day in my
head. So it just made me think about all the people I talk to every day and now I concentrate on trying to
make every interaction a positive one. One where the other person walks away feeling better, etc.
