Science: Fossils Day 4 Objective Students will "unearth" their fossils. With a partner students will write a story about discovering fossils, utilizing knowledge learned throughout the unit thus far. Display the attached rubric for students' stories on the projector so they can refer to it as they write. Assessment Students' writing will be assessed using the attached rubric.

Differentiation Visual and auditory learners' needs are met through the modeling of the fossil-revealing process and the example e-book. Students who struggle with writing are paired with stronger students to support them. Possible accommodations: extra time to complete writing assignment. Standards: LS.2.: Some kinds of individuals that once lived on Earth have completely disappeared, although they were something like others that are alive today. W.2.8.: Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question. RL.2.10.: By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories and poetry, in the grades 23 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range. SL.2.1.: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
