Peace Corps Anonymous

Sexual-Assault Hotline Pilot

From February 15 August 15, the Peace Corps is conducting a six-month pilot of a 24-hour anonymous
sexual-assault hotline for Volunteers at seven posts. The hotline is staffed by trained Peace Corps
mental-health specialists in the United States who provide crisis counseling, information on Peace Corps
reporting options, and response procedures. To speak anonymously with a counselor, please dial the

necessary international calling access codes or numbers, followed by the U.S. phone number above.
This pilot is part of the agencys comprehensive program designed to engender an environment in which
Volunteers can be safe and productive in their communities, and confident they can seek support from
the Peace Corps in times of need.
Do not call the hotline if you are in imminent danger. If you are in danger, follow your
posts instructions for such circumstances.

Be aware if your assailant has access to your cellphone or computer. If you are
concerned someone may discover you have called the hotline, make sure you delete your
outgoing call records and/or your cache and browser history.
You may continue to report sexual assaults directly to in-country staff without accessing
the hotline, but this will not be anonymous.
If you have any general questions about the hotline, please contact your country director
or the Peace Corps Counseling and Outreach Unit at cou@peacecorps.gov. For
questions about Peace Corps sexual assault policies and programs, contact your country
director or the Office of Victim Advocacy at victimadvocacy@peacecorps.gov. Please
remember that these communications, unlike the hotline, are not anonymous.
Near the end of the pilot period, all Volunteers in the seven participating countries will be asked to take an online survey
so the Peace Corps can better understand Volunteer needs and experiences. Volunteer safety is the agencys first
priority: Volunteer input is a crucial component of ensuring this.
