Young Indonesians between the ages of 18 and 25 have the opportunity to participate in the Youth Ag Summit hosted by 4-H Canada, a rural youth organization, from August 19 to 25, 2013 in Calgary, Canada. Bayer CropScience Indonesia is proud to support the Summit.

THE PROGRAM

Youth Ag Summit: 120 youth from around the world (20 countries) to Canada for a 7 day conference to discuss how to feed a growing world. Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Date: August 19 to 25, 2013 Topic: How to feed a growing world Languages: Primarily English Participant Profiles: 18 25 yr. old youth Proficient level of English/able to communicate in English Comfortable with cultural diversity Have strong leadership qualities Some public speaking skills would be an asset Have a passion for agriculture, environmental stewardship, food, world hunger, biotechnology, and/or farming.

THE CONTEST

Submit a 2,000 word essay or a 7 minute video to answer the question: In the next 40 years the worlds population will grow from 7 billion to 9 billion, yet already today, 1 billion people do not have enough safe, nutritious food to eat. Using your own village, town, city or country as your point of reference, tell us what you think are the underlying causes of food insecurity and why, as well as the effect(s) it can have on a population (both locally and globally). Explain in your answer how you would use the Youth Ag Summit to address these issues. Two successful applicants from Indonesia will get an expenses paid trip to the global Youth Ag Summit with 120 youth from 20 countries. They'll participate in a week-long event where ideas will be shared and opportunities will be explored with other young people, business leaders and scientists about this global agricultural challenge. Countries currently involved include Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom and USA.
