The fish and the forest

Salmons are created in lakes/streams but eventually move to oceans Bears fertilize the forest by removal of salmon bodies When salmons die theres a flow of nutrients and energy from the ocean to the streams and lake ecosystem Bears fight by fishes (food), Prior to survivor Bears only eat the small portion of the fish, like 25%, mostly of that is high fat content The leftover of the carcass is used a s a supply of nutrients for plants and forest Bears have different types of salmons they eat, some doesnt eat females conflicts can make minor bears move to upland meadows to feed salmon carcasses bring nutrients to forest The nutrients get to other animals when insects and birds eat the leftovers. Decreasing of one of the animals will result imbalance for the other one and it results the shortage of nutrients to forests.

B. The article The fish and the forest states the relationship between a bear and a salmon and how their ecosystem affects the environment. In this case salmons are like the primary sources, bears are the ones who depend on them as a food source even though from a single salmon they only eat approximately 25% of it, and of that 25% mostly fatty parts of it. But what happens to the rest 75% completes the rest of the ecosystem. The carcass of the salmon eventually gets into ocean and it makes a large flow of nutrients and energy from the ocean to lake and stream ecosystem. And because salmons contain nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, fats and lipids; they are used by plants in order to obtain those nutrients they need. So the salmons are the main building block of the ecosystem. C.

Its amazing how a single species can affect a so many natures. After reading this article It really opened up my mind to observe better and to think critically. Its not a made up story, its a known fact but the truth behind it really surprised me, especially the fact that Ive never thought about it. Just the decreasing or increasing of salmons make a whole difference in the environment, apparently if they decrease their negative effect will be on other that depend on them like bears and plants that need their nutrients will be out of site following them.

So what? We should make our effort to keep up the ecosystem as natural and normal rate as possible because both salmons and bears are a major parts of ecosystem and can really affect negatively if the decrease. What if? The salmon population was about to decrease? Not only the bear population but also the forest and plant population in that area decrease

What does it remind me of? This reminds me of plants and us humans. We cant live without them because they are the only producers, we need them to be alive generally but still we dont take care of them ironically enough.
