It means producing goods and services using self organized communities of volunteers. The best people volunteer for the job, unlike the hierarchically organized communities. Collaboration sharing information. Companies like Glaxo-Smith and Kline share and grow with other companies in order to become a bigger company. Collaborating with open source communities help cut costs. Wikipedia and Lunix are a good idea. Skilled people help run certain sites, and people feel empowered because there is no ownership. The voluntary based sites that rely on the public input are very motivational as they actually want to contribute, whereas others may need an incentive.
