DRUGS NAME

MECHANISM OF ACTION Competitively inhibits the action of histamine at the H2 receptors of the parietal cells of the stomach, inhibiting basal gastric acid secretion and gastric acid that is stimulated by food, insulin, histamine, cholinergic agonist, gastrin, and pentagastrin.

DOSAGE: 150 mg ROUTE: Po FREQUENCY: Bid

*Short term treatment of active duodenal ulcer *maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcer at reduced dosage. *short term therapy treatment and maintenance therapy of active, benign gastric ulcer ulcer *short term treatment for GERD *phatologic hypersecretor y conditions *treatment of

*contraindicated with allergy to ranitidine, lactation. *use cautiously with impaired renal or hepatic function, pregnancy.

CNS: Headache, malaise, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia, vertigo CV: Tachycardia, bradycardia DERMATOLOGIC: Rash, alopecia GU: Gynecomadtia, impotence, decrese libido GI: Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, hepatitis. HEMATOLOGIC: Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia , pancytopenia.

HISTORY: Allergy to ranitidine, impaired renal or hepatic function, lactation, pregnancy PHYSICAL: Skin lesions, baseline ECG, liver evaluation, abdominal examination. INTERVENTION: -administer drug with meal and at bed time. -provide concurrent antacid therapy to relieve pain. TEACHING POINTS: -Take drug with meal and at bed time. May continue 3-4 weeks or longer. -report sore throat, unusual bruising or bleeding, tarry stools, severe headache, muscle or joint pain.
